The Story Project

Hello everyone!

I wanted to provide you with an update with the story.  I've decided to start posting updates twice a week, Sunday and Wednesday.  Our unnamed character discovers just how dangerous it is to be out at night in the world of Minecraft.  Please leave comments below on how you feel the story is progressing as well as any support you'd like to provide.  You can view the story here.

My breathing becomes shallow and fast as fear grips my being.  My eyes staring back into soulless, blank orbs.  The stench of death overwhelms as this rotting creature stumbles closer.  I'm paralyzed, not even the thought of safety passes through my mind.  Without warning, an arrow whizzes by and embeds itself into a nearby tree, inches from my head.  "Run, you fool!" rings through my head.

Should Speeding Limits Be Changed?

Techno-tronics!

Hello tech-heads!  Today's featured post is an interesting one.  I came across this video through one of my RSS feeds, and it's very compelling.  If you want further proof that maybe something should be done, do some research into the Autobahn.  Even though they have stretches where there is no speed limit, they have a lower accident and fatality rate compared to the US for example.

Server Jail

Heyo mayo!

Hello again Minecrafters!  It's been a while, but due to some issues with Planet Minecraft, I wasn't able to upload anything for awhile again.  Since I'm able to again, I upload a dozy of a build.  This is a custom jail I made for my server, OmniKraft.  I wanted to have an effective way to punish players who break the rules without always having to resort to banning.

This is my answer.  The jail is meant to actually punish players and now allow an easy way to get out of it.  There are constantly triggered pistons and note blocks and jailers to harass and kill the player.  The jail itself is easy to maintain as the commands only effect a small area and the command blocks are open from the outside to allow for quickly changing the commands.

Minecraft Skin Search

It's Hump Daaaayyyy!

Heyyy, ohhh!  For all the Minecrafts, I have a tool that I just had to share.  I actually used this to make the avatar I use for a lot of places.  It's called Minecraft Skin Search.  It allows you to view any Minecraft skin in a larger scale, in 2D and 3D!  It's awesome to use if you'd like a way to get a good quality image of your skin to show off!

Epic Castle

Who's ready for 1.7???

Hello Minecrafters!  Today's featured project, even though it's not done yet, is looking pretty good so far.  The builder, mr_clavet, has it showing as 50% complete currently.  I can say that I can't wait for the finished product to be released.  I'd really like to walk around to see how large of a scale this build is.

1.7 Summon Command Generator

To the rafters!

Greetings, Minecrafters!  Today's post is an awesome tool I stumbled upon and is very useful.  One of features that is coming with version 1.7 is the ability to summon mobs, both passive and aggressive, maybe even a passive-aggressive mob.  Anywho, enough of the dry humor.  This great web tool will help you generate a summon command.  With options for a name, armor, health and other attributes, I can see this being a valuable tool not just for mapmakers, but for server admins.  Hmm, maybe a custom mob arena with a crazy zombie boss?

Revolutionary New Product?

Hello Tech Heads!

Today's Techno post is about a new company that is trying to bring to market a supposed revolutionary new device.  If what they say is true, they plan to bring out a device that can charge multiple electronic devices wirelessly!  Yes, there are currently wireless chargers, but they can only charge one device at at time and have a very limited range.  See inductive charging.

What makes this device so revolutionary is that they claim it'll work on radio waves, the same way Wi-Fi works for example.  They are saying that as long as you have a Wi-Fi signal in your house, your device can be charging as well.  If they get this working as they promise, it'll mean a big change to how everyday products could get power, not just smart phones.  I personally have high hopes for this, maybe Tesla's dream for wireless energy could come true.

Ossia exec says Cota device can wirelessly charge multiple devices through walls, around corners.

Winners of Mojang's Papercraft Diorama Competition

It's Hump Day... no wait, it isn't.  It's Friday!

The development studio that brought you Papercraft Studio (Android / iOS) 57digital, laid forth a challenge to create an amazing diorama using their app.  The Minecraft community rose to the challenge with amazing results!  You can see the finalists creations here.  It's just amazing how creative the Minecraft community is.  I couldn't imagine Markus would have ever imagined his humble game would ever become such a hit in many ways!  The winner of the contest is Bennie Whitcomb, who's winning entry is below.

Don't Use /summon For Blocks!

Build, build, build!

Hello Minecrafts!  I don't know about you, but the features that are being worked on in 1.7 have got me quite excited.  The biomes themselves are beautiful.  The update to fishing is making it worthwhile to actually fish, and all the new command block commands!  In snapshot 36a/b, people were using /summon to create blocks where they wanted.  Well, Jeb put a stop to that quite quickly, more or less.  He did so by giving a new command, /setblock!  Using this command can now easily blocks wherever you want!

Think of using this in parkour games with blocks that disappear and re-appear.  Maybe make a drawbridge that can appear and disappear with a flip of switch!  Make a crazy cool hidden door that opens and removes a whole wall section!  So many possibilities with such a command!  Below is an excerpt from Jeb.

  • x y z are coordinates, can be relative using tilde, as usual
  • block is the block id (ofcourse), which in the future will be mod-safe (for example, instead of having the value 1, you can have "minecraft:stone")
  • data is the block data, 0-15 as normal
  • method is special and can have three values: replace, keep, destroy. "replace" will simply replace the current block, and throw an error message if nothing happened (occurs when the new block/data is identical to the old one). "keep" will only place the new block if the target space is empty, and "destroy" will first destroy the target block (and spawn resources) before placing the new block.
  • dataTag is the NBT tag were you put information for tile entities such as chests. For example, "{Items:[{id:"minecraft:potato",Count:2}]}", and so on.

A New Project

Hello everyone!  I've had a sudden urge to start up a new project.  At certain times in my life, I have been struck by this urge, an urge to write a story.  Two previous stories I wrote were for another game I play, Spiral Knights.  The first one was for the guild I help manage, Mitternacht, titled The Darkness of Cradle.  The second one I wrote started as an entry for a contest, this one titled The Guardian Lost.

This brings me to the story I've started.  The writing style I take is a unique, as far as I can tell.  I prefer to write my stories a paragraph at a time.  Every Sunday, I will post a paragraph that continues the story.  You can follow the progress here on my blog, or you can visit my new blog which will host the story.  If you would to support my story, please use this link.  I hope you enjoy my story and will support my new project.  Thank you.

Awakened

The weariness begins to fade as the warmth from the sun washes over me.  I manage to push myself onto my feet this time, on unsteady legs... The suns rays beam down on a beautiful prairie, full of animals and flowers.  "Where am I?" I think to myself.

Turn Any Site Into a Marble Maze

Hakuna Matata!

Hey, it's Saturday, and I've got something real fun for you today!  For today's Techno post, I present you a very fun experiment from Google.  If you didn't know that Google likes to have fun (Google "do a barrel roll" for example), then I'm not really sure where you've been.  Oh, probably spending a lot of time on Minecraft building up your epic city or something.

I digress though, if you like to see how you can use an Android phone to turn any website you go to into a marble maze, visit this link.  Follow the instructions and prepare to spend countless hours browsing the web in a crazy new way.

YouTube Series - Indev

Salutations & Greetings!

I came across this video on YouTube and it's a pretty funny series.  It's a take on those fashion design contests you see on TV, but with a Minecraft spin!  Honestly, I think I should be on there as I would be quite the challenger.  Otherwise, it's a good series and you'll definitely get some laughs out of it.

Minecraft 1.7 News Update - Resource Packs

WYSIWG!

Hello Minecrafters!  More news for the upcoming 1.7 update has been found!  This one pertaining to the new resources packs.  Currently, if you want to customize what is in the pack you used, you had to do it manually.  No more!  With 1.7, you can customize your experience through the GUI (graphical user interface).  It's a pretty neat addition, we'll see how others like it once it's out.

Techno Post Saturday - When Games Pretend to Be Games They Aren’t

Hello Tech Junkies!

My apologies first for slacking on my tech posts.  Haven't done one of these in a while.  Well, for today's Techie post, I've got a very interesting read from OverthinkingIt.com.  At this site, they specialize in really in-depth analysis of various topics.  My favorite of theirs and what got me interested in following them is their article, Subjecting "Fridge Nuking" to Scientific Peer Review.

Their latest article analyzes Candy Crush.  If you've played the hit game (I for one haven't), there is something you probably haven't noticed.  If you'd like to see what you've been overlooking, read up on this article.  It'll make you think the next time you clear out a section of candy.

Minecraft Wallpapers

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

Welcome Minecrafters!  One of the best things about Minecraft is all the ways it allows players to express their creativity.  I always enjoy seeing what others build on my server, OmniKraft.  When those wonder builds are featured in renders, it's that much better!  I also love seeing the same work done with the naturally generated world.

Anywho, I came across this on one of my favorite sites.  Use the link to go see some awesome wallpapers!

That is all for this post though!  As a way of giving back to the community of OmniKraft, I made a wallpaper of the spawn island.  I hope you enjoy!
